Our whole lives (o.w.l.)** 7th and 8th grade
Our Whole Lives is an intensive program on relationships, sexuality, and sexual decision-making offered to seventh and eighth graders. This course is led by trained OWL teachers from the congregation and is an amazing embodiment of our Unitarian Universalist ideals and values.
If a 7th grade youth opts not to take the OWL course, or enters the church after the OWL course has begun, that youth will be part of the Chalice Club. **A parent discussion group, based on both the Junior High and Adult courses in OWL, is sometimes currently held.
F8th in action - 8th grade
This dynamic new program for 8th graders will meet Sunday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. and occasional other times for trips and projects. F8th in Action gets you out of the classroom and into the world, in an experience-based exploration of what it means to be a young Unitarian Universalist.
Service to the Church and the Larger World
Service is a Hallmark of Unitarian Universalist religious practice. One of our goals is to have every young person engaged in some form of social action each church year. In the past the children have made welcome bags for women and children coming to live in a battered women's shelter, organized drives for the local food pantry, and raised money for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. For several years the high school youth group has participated in weeklong service trips with Habitat for Humanity. We organize groups of adults, children and youth to do one-day work projects in Boston.
We welcome children to join us in making statements of public witness, such as marching in Gay Pride or participating in the walk for hunger. If you have a service project in mind please contact someone from the Religious Education Committee or the Social Outreach Committee. If your project is congruous with Unitarian Universalist ideals and values we may be able to help you execute that project.
