In the face of political, economic and environmental crises, speaking of hope can feel futile and even naive. Still, in the darkest hours of our human history, thinkers like Viktor Frankl have reminded us that our resilience is founded upon our hope. The ideal that they espouse, however, is not mere wishful thinking, but instead an active orientation of ourselves toward the good. In these painful times, how might we look toward community to share in the hard work of cultivating this active hope?
