Just as Christian fundamentalists who reject evolution as incompatible with the Bible seem to be constrained by a simplistic view of science, perhaps scientists who reject all religion as incompatible with science are limited by too simplistic a view of religion.  But the essential truth of evolution is that over long stretches of time, living things may change into something wholly different than what they started out as.  May not that be true of living cultural phenomena as well?
