As a result of videotaping and sports instant replays, we know that eyewitnesses report only their experience of an event, an experience often quite different from others who were there as well. What we see and hear, and how we frame it are shaped by all we bring to the encounter. In these times of aggravated polarization, we might be served by taking a step back. – Rev.
